9/26/2023 0 Comments Bioshock infinite weapons guide![]() Your revolver in now a River gun, your Thompson machine gun turns into a Gatling gun, your crossbow is now a spear gun (yeah, the ones that are used to hunt marine wildlife with) and instead of wrench you have a drill! The iconic weapon you learned to fear in the first game is now yours to unleash your fury. Bioshock 2īasically everything about the gameplay in the sequel can be summarised with "it's better": now you play as a Big Daddy, so you hit harder. The point is that Bioshock is a slow paced, methodic game, that rewards experimentation, exploration and intelligent decisions over guns blazing madness. In fact, one of my favourite plasmids is Telekinesis, which you can use to pick up an item and transport it to a place where you can pick it up later, You can even pick up explosive barrels and create a trap! ![]() Bioshock encourages exploring so you can stock up on ammo, Health kits and Eve (which you will need plenty of to take down the Big Daddies, the minibosses I talked about earlier). Despite that, you can completely ignore the main objectives, explore the levels as you please and only once you are done resume the main objective. No space is wasted, because the designers built the missions to make sure you would visit all of it through the campaign. Even after you complete a level you can go back to it and find any secrets your forgot. Now, how does the level design work to support this complex gameplay? First, Bioshock has an episodic design: each level of the game is an open zone with a central hub, from which you travel to secondary areas completing the main objectives. Oh, Adam also can be spent to upgrade to your maximum health and Eve, and you will want to do so to survive the later levels. Some of these are obtained by researching enemies with the camera, but most have to be bought with Adam, a special currency that you can only acces after defeating mini-bosses. But there's even more! You have an entire plasmid subsystem, the gene tonics, that provide you with passive abilites from three categories: combat, physical or engineering, with effects that range from something as simple as damage reduction to improved plasmids, increased health regeneration, lower costs for your plasmids and decreased difficulty when hacking machines. Well, as long you have the Eve (mana) to cast them. You can place decoys, call bee swarms, create wind traps that launch enemies, you can hypnotize them to make them fight each other, and you can even mark them so the security system attacks them. If you thought that was a lot, fasten your seatbelt, because that's when the magic system comes in: by altering your DNA with "plasmids" you can gain access to fire, ice and electric attacks. The coolest part is that all the upgrades actually change how the weapon looks The problem being, said upgrades can only be acquired in a Power to the People station, of which there are only two per level, and each can be used only once. All weapons except for the wrench and the camera have alternate ammo types that increase your tactical options, and can be upgraded to eliminate some of their weaknesses the gun multiplies its magazine size by four, the machinegun loses recoil, the shotgun shoots faster, etc. Let's begin with the arsenal: you have a wrench for melee combat, a revolver, a machine gun, a shotgun, a grenade launcher, a chemical thrower (it's basically a flamethrower that can also freeze or electrocute), a crossbow and a research camera. Bioshockįor a game that's technically a first person shooter, Bioshock has a lot of depth. To explain so, I'm going to analize the gameplay in each game in release order. ![]() I just finished replaying the Bioshock trilogy back to back, an experience that highlights the contrast between games and which served me to finally realize what I missed in the third one.
